When Birse Civils Limited, part of the Balfour Beatty Group, moved their Western Region office into new premises at Stonehouse, Stroud College contacted them to explore ways in which the two organisations might work together.
After taking the time to fully understand the customer requirements, the College was offered the opportunity to deliver a range of personal and professional development courses. These courses were tailored to the specific requirements of their regional staff with their broad spectrum of qualifications and experience.
The development programme has been a great success with consistently positive feedback from delegates. The courses included:
- Basic IT Skills. This was aimed at some of the General Foremen who had limited computing experience and has enabled them to better use MS Outlook for handling email enquiries.
- Plain English Report Writing. An essential skill for successful business people today is the ability to produce good and effective written communications. This course improved delegates’ abilities to write clear, concise and easily read reports in plain English.
- Leadership Skills. This workshop was aimed at team leaders, managers and supervisors who have responsibility for managing the performance of others. It equipped delegates with the confidence and skills necessary to provide both positive and negative feedback to team members.
Howard Bold, Regional Engineering Manager at Birse Civils Limited, commented that “Working with Stroud College has provided us with an effective way of meeting our specific training needs over a range of topics with minimum impact on the day to day running of our business. Stroud College’s approach has been flexible, professional and responsive and they have delivered their promises. We are pleased to be able to source quality training locally, resulting in less travelling and inconvenience for employees and associated reduction in costs.”
