Clare Balding joins Stroud College Photography tutor on a scenic Cotswold walk

Stroud College Digital Photography Tutor, Tom Keating, along with local artist collective "Walking the Land" took Clare Balding, presenter of BBC Radio 4 programme "Ramblings" across the Cotswold Hills on one of their walking/art workshops.

Clare Balding, the well known face of TV sports programmes along with her colleague Producer Lucy Lunt joined lead artists Tom Keating, Richard Keating and Kel Portman on a walk that took them through the woods and open spaces of Rodborough, to draw, record and photograph the landscape. The artists use their knowledge of the area and of creating art to assist the other walkers in the work, suggest different techniques or views and to generally encourage and support.

The popular and long running Radio 4 Programme paints an evocative word picture of walking in the countryside with Clare Balding"s easy going and lively style informed by conversation and sounds.

As they walked, Clare Balding"s personal and descriptive observations of the beautiful snow covered countryside were enhanced by discussions with the artists about their influences, the local landscape and environment, its history and wildlife.

Clare, a keen photographer also took the opportunity to make frequent stops to photograph the area and was given creative insights by the Walking the Land team. Despite not considering herself an artist, Clare was persuaded to launch into several sketches of the snow laden trees and woodland.

Accompanying the group were other local artists: Suze Adams, Lucy Guenot, Penny Prince, Martin Large, photographer Ian Peters and well known writer Alice Jolly.

The Programme is due for broadcast on 13th Feb 06:07 18th Feb 15:00 and of course can be heard later on BBC iPlayer.
