This popular course is designed for both men and women who wish to pursue a career in Beauty Therapy and have already successfully achieved an NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy. You will develop the technical skills and knowledge learnt in level 2 beauty therapy to an advanced level along with advanced facial and hair removal techniques. There will be a chance for you to enter competitions and you will be asked to produce and take part in a fashion show as part of your course. There will also be an opportunity to travel abroad to visit a Spa.
You will demonstrate your natural artistic flair in a range of areas including:
- Electrolosis
- Financial management
- Tanning
- Face and body electricals
- Epilation
- Body massage
- Indian body massage
- Massage using pre-blended oils
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Advanced waxing techniques
You will also study Functional skills.
Applicants must have a suitable reference, good manual dexterity and oral communication.
NVQ 2 Beauty Therapy - full qualification
A GCSE grade C or above in English (or equivalent) is required.
This course runs over 1 year, 2-3 days per week
Students will have a mixture of practical classes in the salon, underpinning knowledge learnt in the classroom. Students will be expected to perform demonstrations on models, other students and real paying clients of the salon once they are above a specified standard.
Experienced tutors will closely examine and guide students through techniques to ensure they are meeting and exceeding industry standards.
Students will be expected to work in teams on presentations and group projects such as our fashion show and in a variety of themed shows. Some projects will involve students working with other students from across the college. You will also have the opportunity to go on residential trips and visit specialised shows and establishments.
Students who successfully complete this course may choose to further their career progression on a holistic therapy or sports therapy course. Progression on to Higher Education may be possible.
Completion of this qualification will provide you with opportunities in careers such as self employment, teaching, assessing and managing beauty salons in many locations including, health farms, spa resorts, and cruise liners.
Whatever you decide to do we have a dedicated careers adviser and aim higher co-ordinator to help you decide as well as frequent employer talks to ensure you make an informed choice.
You will be assessed on your course through observation of practical assessments, assignments and written examinations, all of which require a high degree of commitment and hard work. You will also work with members of the general public who visit our salons. Experienced tutors will closely examine and guide students through techniques to ensure they are meeting and exceeding industry standards.
Regular reviews with your tutor will provide you with feedback on your progress.
You will require a beauty kit which will have all the equipment you will need for the duration of your course. As a professional working salon you will be required to purchase a specified uniform. There will also be costs for trips to professional shows and residential visits, details of these will be discussed at the interview.
