Access Certificate to Higher Education in Health and Social Care

About This Course

The Access course is for those who have few formal qualifications, but who wish to return to study with a view to progressing on to Higher Education.  This Access course is an accepted route into University and provides excellent preparation to Degree level courses in a variety of fields.  For many adults, returning to education is a gradual process.  You may decide to try one or two short courses to begin with such as an A Level, GCSE or Introductory IT qualifications.

Core Modules:

Communications, Maths, Study Skills and Information Technology Options/Pathways:

Specialist units for pathways such as Nursing, Health and Social Work including Psychology, Sociology, Health Studies and Social Work.

What are the entry requirements?

No formal qualifications are necessary, although student will undertake an informal discussion to talk through the available options and the most suitable pathway open to them.

When will I attend?

1 year full-time (4 days per week).  Classes are timetabled between 10.00am and 3.00pm to take into account childcare responsibilities.

How is the course assessed?

Methods of study
Classroom and workshop based with group and project work as well as individual tutorial support

Assessment will be through Coursework.

Progression

The Access course leads to a recognised qualification providing entry into Higher Education and employment.  You could also stay on at Stroud College and study on the Foundation degree in Health and Social Care.

Finance

Free to students under 26 who do not have a full Level 3 qualification.
